OUTBREAK TRANSMISSION · MARKET AUTOPSY

The Memecoin Graveyard: Everyone Wants to Be a Millionaire. Nobody Reads the Corpse Report.

A field report on zombie tokens, liquidity vanishing acts and the undead optimism of crypto traders.

ZombieCash Signal Desk · 26 October 2026 · Educational, not financial advice

Welcome to the memecoin market: where a token can lose almost all its value and somebody still calls it “building in silence.” The developers may be silent for many reasons. Your job is to investigate, not to write their comeback story for them.

79%

A Bitquery investigation of 11.5 million newly traded Solana tokens from 1 November 2025 to 7 October 2026 found that 79% of Pump.fun tokens in its sample never traded again after launch day. Only about 1 in 58 graduated to a full trading pool.

Launch-day trading

ZOMBIE FIELD NOTE: The chart is not a health certificate A green candle can look like a rescue flare. It does not prove organic demand, reliable liquidity or that you can sell at the displayed price. “We are early” is not an audit; it is a timestamp.

Liquidity: the emergency exit

Price and market capitalization are not the same as executable value. Thin pools can make even modest swaps move a price sharply. Check the actual pool, its depth and the price impact of an exit-sized trade. A separate Bitquery study of more than one million Meteora DAMM v2 pools opened between October 2025 and July 2026 reported that 89% were eventually left with less than 1% of their SOL balance; 79% were drained within an hour. Those findings apply to that studied pool population, not every token or pool.

Volume: a loud room is not a crowd of buyers

Volume alone does not prove independent demand. Compare it with liquidity, transaction timing, buy/sell activity and wallet diversity. Automated or coordinated activity can make a market look busier than it is. A spike is a clue to investigate, not a promise.

Five checks before you buy

  1. Verify the full mint address using a trusted source; names and tickers are easy to copy.
  2. Inspect pool liquidity and estimate price impact for the trade you might need to exit.
  3. Review holder concentration and relevant authorities; account for pools, exchanges and related wallets.
  4. Compare volume, buys, sells and wallet activity across several time windows.
  5. Never share a seed phrase or sign a transaction you do not understand.

The scam industry has a marketing department

Chainalysis estimated in January 2026 that crypto scams and fraud received at least $14 billion on-chain in 2025, with the estimate potentially exceeding $17 billion as more illicit addresses are identified. A polished website, AI-generated founder portrait or loud community is not proof of legitimacy.

Final autopsy

A failed project is not automatically a scam, and a chart is not evidence of fraud by itself. Check the evidence, state what remains uncertain, and never risk money you cannot afford to lose.
